Our Roots

Our family comes from generations of traditional loom weavers in Aruppukottai. We grew up around the looms, hearing the shuttle move across the warp and watching cotton dry in the sun. We saw the women around us wear the same sarees for years, washed soft and loved hard.

That's how we learned what a good cotton saree feels like, and what makes Aruppukottai's sarees special: comfort, durability and an honest kind of beauty. Jiya Cottons is how we carry that forward.

How We Choose

We work with the weavers of Aruppukottai and choose each saree ourselves. Because we grew up in this craft, we know what to look for: the feel of the cotton, an even weave, a border that holds its shape, a colour that stays true after many washes. Only the sarees we'd happily wear ourselves become part of Jiya.

For the Hands Behind the Loom

The weavers of Aruppukottai make some of the most beautiful cotton in the country. Yet the people who make it are rarely seen, and they don't often receive the income their skill deserves. We know this because we come from these families.

At Jiya, we want that to change. We'll work to make sure the weavers behind our sarees get fair value for their work, and the recognition that should come with it. Every saree you choose from us is a small step towards that.

#InHerWorld

Most saree campaigns show one kind of woman: fair, slim, and surrounded by luxury. We don't believe in that picture.

These sarees come from a culture where the saree has always belonged to every woman. A Jiya saree looks elegant on every skin tone, from fair to deep dusky, on every body type, and on every woman, whether she lives in a village house or a city apartment. Every woman is beautiful in her own world, and that's the woman we celebrate.

A saree is worn through a whole day: the morning bus, a long afternoon at work, a kitchen full of family, a slow walk by the sea on a holiday. She moves through many worlds in a single week, and her saree should feel easy in every one of them.

That's the idea behind #InHerWorld. We bring sarees for her world, wherever that world is, in Tamil Nadu or on the other side of the globe.

What You'll Find

Every Jiya saree is pure Aruppukottai cotton, woven on traditional looms.

Our four categories

  • Plain: a single solid colour, finished with a border.
  • Butta: small motifs woven across the body of the saree.
  • Mercerised: smooth cotton with a soft, silk-like lustre.
  • Korvai: Aruppukottai's own, known for its bold contrast border.

Our fabrics

  • 60s count: the classic cotton, made for everyday wear.
  • 80s count: finer and lighter, for days when you want the saree to almost disappear.
  • Mercerised (120s count): the finest of the three, smooth and lustrous.
  • Korvai: a traditional weave that joins the contrast border to the body.

Our zari borders carry motifs that have stayed with us for generations: peacocks, elephants and rudraksha.

From Roots to the World

Our aim is simple. We want to take the sarees of Aruppukottai from our town to women everywhere, without losing what makes them ours, and without leaving behind the people who make them.

Woven with tradition. Chosen with care.

Where the loom meets the soul.
